The most important part of maternity photography and all photography for that matter is the light. The light is what shapes you, the subject. The light can be flattering or it can make things look very strange. I use all types of lighting patterns depending on what type of story I’d like to tell with the image. I thought this maternity portrait was very , simple and sweet. It captures a very special and almost fleeting moment in a mommy’s life.

Do you see this perfect little guy with this sweet little hand made baby hat on? Oh man this kills me! It just makes me laugh because of all of the cuteness. One of my favorite parts of newborn baby photography is all of the handmade accessories. I do have some hats and things in the studio but I also encourage you to bring your own. I love the uniqueness and originality from the handmade baby flare brought from home. If you don’t want to make it your self… Well there’s always www.etsy.com. The last session of the first year plan is always the hardest one for me. I get to watch these babies grow from 5 days old until their first birthday. I see them every three months and usually at their cutest. I have to suck up the tears sometimes…. For me time flies by so quickly. Every time I’m shocked at how much they’ve changed in 3 months time.

As a new born baby, Elijah came into the studio with tons of black hair now he’s a toe head. He still has that same sweet baby face though…

Each time I see him, his funny personality just shines. Today he came into the studio sleepy.. Just woke up from his nap and he was having a snack… It was almost like he didn’t remember me… Maybe not really feeling a portrait session today? I asked his daddy “Does he like music?” Dad says “yeah, he likes rock.” I guess a little different from the twinkle twinkle that I had jammin’ on itunes… I say “what are we talkin’ here? Led Zeppelin… The Beatles?” Dad says “yeah!” So I go to my trusty Pandora Radio and put on some Led Zeppelin radio. Geez, It brought me right back to 10th grade. Elijah started dancing around and playing with dad. Instantly the fun was on. The rest is history… Needless to say amazing photos and one year old Elijah likes to rock!

Look at the new tutu that Michelle Walsh from Tutu Girlz brought to me today. Oh man I love it! Just my style ! Who will be first to be photographed in it?

Usually you can tell a photographer is busy by all of the new sessions that they have been blogging… I’m the total opposite! You can tell that I have been busy when my blog suffers…. Over the next couple weeks I’ll try to have an update on some of my favorite sessions from the past couple months. Enjoy. Look at this sweet little guy’s 4 month session. I’ve just really never wanted to do a cake session… And no one had ever asked me. But when it’s one of your favorite babies… Of course I’ll say “YES!” It was so funny she was so delicate about it Here’s the cake.. Before and after. 12 month old baby pictures to follow soon!

So before I head out to WPPI for a week I have 2 baby sessions to do. And yes, for the very first time I am doing a 1st birthday cake session.  I am sure is going to be a mess but probably pretty fun! Wait for the pictures. I will post them soon! Happy Friday

The Vitamin String Quartet …. Or Metro Station… I love this music but it still makes me laugh a little… I can sing along and It helps to keep baby sleepy too… I love my job and wee bitty babies!

One of my favorite wee bitty babies! She is so beautiful, sweet and funny… And now she is an award winner! I entered this 7 month old baby portrait into Professional Photographers of San Diego County, image and print competition as well as Professional Photographers of California Competition. I received a merit for both competitions but also received Best in Show at San Diego!
